定義
連續性出版品 Serial
A publication in any medium issued in successive parts bearing numeric
or chronological designations and intended to be continued indefinitely.
Serials include periodicals; newspapers; annuals (reports, yearbooks, etc.);
the journals, memories, proceedings, transactions, etc., of societies; and
numbered monographic series.
它的構成要素有三:
- 以連續方式分批出版;
- 載有編號或年代日期;
- 意圖永遠繼續出版下去。
有五種類型:
- periodicals;
- newspapers;
- annuals (reports, yearbooks, etc.);
- the journals, memories, proceedings, transactions, etc., of societies;
- numbered monographic series.
期刊 Periodicals
A kind of serial that has a distinctive title and that is issued more
frequently than once a year and at regular intervals, wiht eache issue containing
articles by several contributors.
非期刊 Non-periodicals
All other forms of serials, such as yearbooks, annuals, memoirs, transactions
and proceedings of societies, and any series cataloged together instead
of separately.
- Monograph is a nonserial item.
出版中的套書 Continuations of sets
Oxford History of English Literature - provisional serials
未完成以前當成serial, 不再出版之後, 當做 nonserials;
Guide to Reference Books -pseudo-serials
Kroeger -> Mudge -> Winchell -> Sheehy
著錄來源
非印刷性的連續性出版品, 依相關章節規定;
- 主要著錄來源為首期之書名頁, 或
- title page of the first available issue;
- 無書名頁的title page substitute 係指: analytical title page, cover, caption,
masthead, editorial pages, colophon, other pages.
東方國家的出版品, 或符合下列規定, 可用 colophon為主要著錄來源:
- 書名頁祗有正題名; 或
- 書名頁祗有多種字體的正題名; 或
- 書名頁祗有西方文字的書名及其他書目資料。

- 分類及標目較為粗略, 大部份的圖書館不編目, 祗是按字母順序排列;

主要著錄來源有題名之全稱及簡稱, 12.1B2
- 應著錄全稱,
- 但在其他地方只出現簡稱時, 則取簡稱。
僅記載下列性質之版本:
- 區域性之版本敘述; local edition statement;
- 特殊對象之版本敘述; special interest edition statement;
- 特別形式或媒體之敘述; special format or physical presentation statement
- 語言之版本敘述; language edition statementse
- 全部再刷或再版;
下列情形不算版本敘述: 12.2B2
